Perthshire Celebrate The 2018-19 Season
Congratulations to all the Awards Winners for 2018-19 and thanks to our guests & speakers.
On Friday night the great & good of Perthshire RFC gathered for the Annual End of Season Awards dinner. A fantastic night was had by all, ably marshalled (but for 1 hiccup) by Club Captain Ewan MacKessack-Leitch.
Trophies on display won through the season by Perthshire RFC included: the Clark Thomson Cup won in Orkney by the 1XV; the Kirkcaldy 7s Plate; the U16 Caledonia Shield; the U15 Caledonia Cup; and the Perth & Kinross Sports Councils Club of the Year Shield.
An inspiring grace by 1XV Vice-Captain Callum Croughan opened the evening prior to the meal. Alan Clark kicked off the after dinner speeches with his look back over the past season before James Fleming shared some stories from when he represented Scotland on the 7s circuit and reflected on his time playing & coming through the ranks at Perthshire.
Colts’ Player of the Year went to Aidan Watson for his consistent performances with the U18s and his breakthrough into the 1XV. Then last season’s Colts’ winner James Mair backed up another fine year picking up the award for Young Player of the Year.
Another youngster Angus Walker took home 2XV Player of the Year and Alasdair Nisbet thoroughly deserved the Most Improved Player Award as he has got better & better as the season progressed.
Dan Rae collected the Watson Trophy for Players’ Player of the Year in what was a tight contest. The King Clow himself, Duncan Clow, won Player of the Year for a fine season of performances and who could forget the last gasp winning penalty in Thurso?
Mini Team of the Year went to the P6s and Team of the Year was won by the all-conquering U15s. Finally, Club Person of the Year was awarded to Dave Lewis for his monumental efforts starting from a low base to build up a 2XV worthy of the name.
Andy Cummins then rounded the night off with insights from working within the SRU and his favourite memories from playing and being involved at Perthshire. The Club were delighted to present Andy with a quaich to thank him for all the years of effort and service he has given to the Club.
Thanks to all involved in Perthshire Rugby this past season; it is our players, coaches, parents, volunteers, supporters & members that make our Club special. Our 150th Anniversary year is now over but there’s more to come from this Club as we look to the next 150 years!
