FOUNDATION SUPPORT FOR PERTHSHIRE RUGBY

THE Barrie Douglas Foundation is backing Perthshire RFC’s investment in youth development.
Many thanks to Trustee Calum Davidson who handed over a £2000 cheque to club coach Alan Clark, with captain Ewan MacKessack-Leitch and players looking on at Bell’s Sport Centre.

Our Club treasurer Andy Ritchie welcomed the latest backing from the Foundation set-up in memory of the local businessman, Barry Douglas who played for The Eagles in his youth. “The club is about to start refurbishing the equipment store to accommodate coaches’ meetings, video analysis and a break-out area. The Foundation’s donation will go towards this investment. “Our youth section continues to thrive and we field teams from P3 through to U18.  “Our club is also delighted that the number of girls playing rugby in Perthshire has increased steadily.  “Tartan Touch in the summer has also been a big success, with many families and supporters enjoying the non-contact game.

“We’d like to thank the Foundation for their continued support and the hard work of trustees in helping many other sports throughout Perthshire and beyond.”

The Foundation has supported Scottish curling, St Johnstone, Perth and Kinross County Golf and Perthshire RFC in recent months.

THE VOICE OF RUGBY DINNER

We are delighted to be returning to Crieff Hydro on Friday 24th April 2020, to co-host the Bill McLaren Foundation Voice of Rugby Dinner –  a fantastic evening of memorable rugby entertainment.

Special guest speakers, Scott Quinnell and Gavin Hastings will be joined by Bill’s grandson, Rory Lawson who will host the evening.

Perthshire Rugby would like to extend our sincere thanks and gratitude to Chris Irvine, who is personally sponsoring this event. Chris is a highly valued long term supporter of our club and we are greatly appreciative of his support.

Big Weekend of Fun but the Results Don’t Come

Fantastic Burn’s Night Raises the Spirits

It was a busy weekend for the Senior Section. A triple bus journey of 1XV, 2XV and the Women’s team in support took the guys to Fife for the 2s to play Dunfermline 2XV and then across the Forth Road Bridge where the 1s took on Murrayfield Wanderers.

The journey back was eventful with the Women’s team getting their introduction to a famous Perthshire bus trip back. The Burns Supper hosted at the Bank Bar saw 60 members from the club gather to enjoy haggis, neeps & tatties along with entertainment in traditional & not so traditional Burn’s Night style.

Highlights included Paul McLean getting his New Zealand accent around the “Address to the Woodlark,” Toasts to the Backs and Forwards by Chris Wallace and Angus McPherson respectively, the Immortal Memory by Calum Bruce and a series of short stories from Jeremy Wares. To round off the night Bruce Fummey brought the house down with his stand-up comedy routine prior to a full rendition of Tam O’ Shanter.

Thanks to the Isle of Arran Distillery for supplying their Robert Burns Single Malt for the toasts.

It’s a break this weekend for the Calcutta Cup this week. The 1XV next return to the North Inch on Saturday 15th February to host Howe of Fife, the 2XV will also be on the Inch facing Strathmore 2XV. Both kick-off at 3pm, the travelling support made a real difference this week, so get down and support your Perthshire teams in these local derbies.
