In a touching display of gratitude, three Perthshire U15 Rugby players paid a special visit to local resident Catherine McDonald, bringing her a beautiful bouquet of flowers as a thank you for her generous donation to their upcoming rugby tour to Italy.
The story of their appreciation began in March when the team participated in a fundraising event at Tesco on the Edinburgh Road, packing bags to raise money for their tour. During their shift, they had the pleasure of assisting Ms. McDonald. Not only did they help pack her bags, but Harris Whyte and Corin Fairholm both went the extra mile by phoning her a taxi and carrying her bags to the car. This act of kindness left a lasting impression on Ms. McDonald, who later made a significant donation to support their tour.
Yesterday, Harris and two of his teammates, visited Ms. McDonald at her home to personally thank her for her generosity. “We wanted to show our appreciation in person,” said Harris Whyte. “Her donation has really touched us, and it was important for us to Thank Ms McDonald”
Team Manager Kirsty Baird added, “Helping Ms. McDonald that day was just the right thing to do. The boys didn’t expect anything in return, and her kindness was a wonderful surprise. It just goes to show that a little bit of kindness goes a long way.”
Ms. McDonald was delighted by their visit and the flowers. “These young men are a credit to their community,” she said. “Their thoughtfulness in March already made my day, and this visit has touched my heart.” The boys are now going to keep in touch with Ms McDonald and keep her updated about their tour.
Perthshire Rugby Club is dedicated to ensuring all its players can participate in the upcoming U15 tour, and to support this, they are continuing their fundraising efforts with several exciting events and initiatives. The Club extends heartfelt thanks to local businesses for their incredible generosity and support.
In August, the U15 team will host a Casino Night, a fun-filled evening that promises entertainment and a chance to contribute to a great cause.
They have also organised an online raffle with an impressive array of prizes donated by generous local businesses. Some of the notable prizes include a four-ball at Murrayshall, a two-night stay at Pitlandie Lodges, afternoon tea at Crieff Hydro, Glasgow Warriors tickets and many more fantastic prizes.
Additionally, the club has arranged an online golf draw with a prize package that includes: A four-ball at Gleneagles and a two-night stay at The Pines Airbnb, Gleneagles.
Join in these efforts to ensure the success of the Perthshire Rugby Club’s U15 tour and support the club in recovering from their losses when the floodgate at the North Inch wasn’t closed in time to prevent flooding, despite weather warnings. The flooding of Bell’s Sports Centre and Perthshire Rugby Club has caused significant damage to much of the rugby club’s equipment. “Any extra monies raised beyond our U15 tour target will go towards replacing much-needed equipment for the club,”
explained U15’s manager Kirsty Baird.
Head Coach Ray Smith praised the boys’ efforts and community spirit.
“All of the team have shown tremendous character both on and off the field this year. Their actions reflect the values we strive to instil in our players—Sportsmanship, Pride, Respect and Inclusion as well as community, and kindness.
The community has rallied behind the team’s efforts, inspired by stories like these that highlight the positive impact of small acts of kindness.
As the team prepare for their tour, they carry with them not just financial support, but the moral encouragement of their entire community and of course Ms McDonald.
