PERTHSHIRE RUGBY SCORES WITH DIRECTOR OF RUGBY APPOINTMENT
Perthshire Rugby has scored, securing Graham Smith as the Club’s new Director of Rugby. Graham joins Perthshire Rugby from Glenalmond College, where he was the school’s Head of Rugby and Director of Sport with responsibility for their acclaimed rugby programme.
Smith is a familiar face at the North Inch, volunteering in recent years, latterly as a coach-educator in Perthshire Rugby’s Mini Section.
Commenting on the news, Perthshire Rugby’s Head of Development, Eamon O’Brien, said, “This is a key appointment for our Club. Graham has a wealth of knowledge and experience to call upon to help us deliver the next stage of our vision for Perthshire Rugby. We have the structure, heritage and desire to compete at the highest level. Graham will oversee an effective plan to nurture talent in our ranks to coach and play rugby to our full potential.”
Perthshire Rugby has grown in strength and depth, particularly in recent years, with members and playing numbers increasing at all levels. Smith’s pivotal role will be dual focussed. He will oversee Perthshire’s Club rugby strategy and product whilst continuing to foster Perthshire’s strong community development programmes at primary and secondary schools across the region.
Commenting on his appointment, Graham Smith said, “I’m looking forward to commencing my role in the summer. The timing is ideal to ensure we can prepare for the new season ahead. I’ve long admired Perthshire Rugby’s community, product and values. Having spoken to members and volunteers, I’m keen to harness the Club’s momentum to achieve further success on the park and help to shape the next chapter for Perthshire Rugby.”
